AI at the Operating System Level

I was kinda blown away this morning when I saw the integration of AI at the operating system level with Windows Copilot. This is not just a new feature or an upgrade; it represents a fundamental shift in the way we interact with our devices. This integration is transforming AI from an optional tool into a core component of our daily digital experiences, signifying a paradigm shift in our relationship with technology.

Windows CoPilot will make Windows 11 the first PC platform to offer centralised AI assistance at the operating system level. By extending Bing Chat plugins to Windows and introducing a new hybrid AI loop, Microsoft is making AI universally available across the system, thereby lowering the adoption barrier for onboarding new users to AI which is massive.

CoPilot is designed to enhance productivity by aiding users in complex projects, reducing the need to juggle multiple applications simultaneously. The integration of AI at the operating system level means that users can access and command all local files, settings, and applications in a more seamless and intuitive way than ever before. For example, you can ask CoPilot to rewrite, summarise, or explain your content, making every user a power user.

Moreover, the introduction of AI at this level not only improves user experience but also opens up new opportunities for developers. This integration is reshaping our interaction with technology at its core, and I couldn’t be more excited to see how Apple responds in a couple of weeks time.
