Every Tech Company Wants To Become An AI Company

The desire to incorporate AI into products is sweeping across the tech industry. Instacart led the way by launching an AI-powered search tool designed specifically for food shopping. Snap followed suit with its innovation, “My AI.” This wave of AI adoption has quickly spread, engulfing the entire sector. Nowadays, aspiring to become an AI company is not just a trend but a strategic move to remain at the forefront of innovation. However, the application of AI must be guided by its ability to augment user experience. Below, we will examine how three tech titans are employing AI to achieve this goal:

DoorDash

DoorDash which recently launched in New Zealand is building a chatbot to help people order food.

The DashAI system includes a warning message that the technology is experimental and that accuracy can vary. Its code also provides examples of how users could query the AI system:

  • “Can you show me some highly rated and affordable dinner options nearby?”

  • “What’s a place that delivers burgers that also has really good salad options?”

  • “Where can I get authentic Asian food? I like Chinese and Thai.”

By offering an AI chatbot, DoorDash could market itself as a more curated food-ordering service — helping the company maintain its edge in a crowded field. Using an AI-based search engine could also be more convenient and quicker than scrolling through endless menus of food options.

Tinder

Tinder is currently testing an AI photo selection feature that looks at a user’s photo album and selects the five that best represents them for their dating profile, parent company Match Group revealed during its earnings call today.

“AI has really inspired our product people across the entire company to really think about ways that we can create new experiences, but also solve for key dating pain points,” Match Group CEO Bernard Kim said. Sometimes, people are really excited to jump into the Tinder experience…then in that exact moment where you upload five pictures, people get generally nervous or uncomfortable, like, ‘What is the right picture that I’ve taken over the last year to make my dating profile more me?’”

Kim explains that an AI-powered photo selection feature aims to eliminate the struggle of finding pictures and help build a profile that accurately represents users.

“I really think AI can help our users build better profiles in a more efficient way that really do showcase their personalities,” Kim added.

Notably, Tinder found that about a third of members said they would “absolutely” use generative AI to help them build a profile during a recent Tinder study.

Uber

Uber is currently developing an AI-powered chatbot to enhance its app’s customer service capabilities. This move aligns with the trend of many companies turning to language tools to automate tasks and improve overall customer experience.

“We’re working on it right now,” chief executive officer Dara Khosrowshahi said Tuesday in an interview on the Bloomberg Technology show. He didn’t provide details on the specifics of what the chatbot would be capable of doing, but highlighted the ways Uber currently uses AI in its business.

“We have been working with machine learning, artificial intelligence systems for years and years,” he told Emily Chang. “Every time you get matched up with a car or a courier, there are algorithms making that happen, from the time of day, distance, all of that is driven by machine learning.”

Overall, Uber’s development of an AI-powered chatbot demonstrates its commitment to leveraging advanced technologies to improve customer service, automate tasks, and drive growth in the competitive ride-hailing and delivery industry.

Every day, major industry players are unveiling their AI strategies and products. It's set to be a captivating battle to see who can execute at the most elevated level. This execution is vital for driving Customer Value: Enhancing customer satisfaction through innovative AI solutions which should in turn lead to Increased Profits and shareholder Value:

The stakes are high, and the race is on to see who can turn their announcements into tangible results that resonate with both the market and consumers.
