Recent breakthroughs in AI, and generative AI in particular, have captured the public’s imagination and demonstrated what those developing these technologies have long known — they have the potential to help people do incredible things, create a new era of economic and social opportunities, and give individuals, creators, and businesses new ways to express themselves and connect with people.

And now? Meta and Microsoft have decided to join forces and roll out the next generation of Llama, their open source large language model. So, what does this mean, and why does it matter? Let's break it down.

Open source is more than a tech trend - it's a philosophy that drives innovation and invites collaboration. What's interesting is that Microsoft and Meta are leaning into this philosophy.

This partnership also puts Meta in the AI limelight. With one of the most widely adopted LLMs and an impressive dataset, they're making a strong statement about their position in AI.
